About Nature Forward
Nature Forward promotes nature for all by engaging people of all ages to enjoy, learn about and protect the natural environment in the Washington, D.C. region. From a nature preschool to summer camps, to nature classes, field trips and travel experiences for adults, Nature Forward provides opportunities for people to get out in nature. We also advocate for the environment on the local, state and national level. Our strength is our dedicated membership of people who are passionate about protecting the natural world. Our beautiful, 40-acre Woodend Nature Sanctuary, located in Chevy Chase. MD, is free and open to the public from dawn to dusk every day of the year.

This place is amazing! Such great space, teachers and programs! My 2- and 4-year olds and I do the once a week Acorns class together. We really enjoy it and have learned a lot.

Fantastic (and free) natural playground (they call it the Nature Play Space) right by the entrance. Perfect for preschool to elementary ages. Bathroom available nearby, and there is also a quick repair station for bikes.

Very beautiful open space, lots of free parking, walking paths and places to explore. Family friendly as well.

We’re so lucky to live around the corner from Nature Forward, it is an awesome place to explore. Our neighborhood doesn’t have sidewalks so it’s especially nice to be able to take our kids here and let them walk. The paved paths were done within the past year and are super smooth for the stroller. It’s always clean here and its great that there are two bathrooms available too.
